Water consumption per person
The M Building at FIA UI relies primarily on water supplied by the Regional Drinking Water Company (PDAM) through the University of Indonesia’s water distribution network. The water is stored in the building’s ground tank, pumped to a storage tank on the fourth floor, and then distributed throughout the building. Overall, more than 75% of FIA UI’s water consumption comes from PDAM, while less than 25% is sourced from groundwater. Total water consumption is 15,200 liters, consisting of 11,400 liters of PDAM water and 3,800 liters of groundwater.

Water usage and care
In 2025, FIA UI used a Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP). The treated wastewater is channelled conventionally to the FIA UI ground tank and later used partly for watering plants and fish farming, so that FIA UI manages its liquid waste optimally and reduces water pollution at Universitas Indonesia.
FIA UI has used sensors on the water faucet and lights so that it will stop operating when there is no stimulation of movement and light. So that, FIA UI has a role in saving water.
FIA UI has implemented landscape planting methods and planted waterproof plants such as lidah mertua, bougenville, and honje. This plant is cared for every day by FIA UI’S cleaning services.
Water Reuse
FIA UI has issued a policy for its academic community to support the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals. Through this policy, all members of the FIA UI academic community are required to use water sufficiently, make sure that water taps are tightly closed after use, and turn off electronic equipment (lights and air conditioners) when not in use.
Water in the community
FIA UI uses stickers and posters to promote wise water use on campus.
