[fusion_builder_container hundred_percent=”yes” overflow=”visible”][fusion_builder_row][fusion_builder_column type=”1_1″ background_position=”left top” background_color=”” border_size=”” border_color=”” border_style=”solid” spacing=”yes” background_image=”” background_repeat=”no-repeat” padding=”” margin_top=”0px” margin_bottom=”0px” class=”” id=”” animation_type=”” animation_speed=”0.3″ animation_direction=”left” hide_on_mobile=”no” center_content=”no” min_height=”none”]KOMPAS.com – The Faculty of Administrative Science Universitas Indonesia (FIA UI) collaborated with The Faculty of Social Sciences and Political Sciences Universitas Gadjah Mada (FISPOL UGM) and The Institute for Governance and Policy Analysis, University of Canberra (IGPA UC) to hold an international conference called “2nd International Conference on Administrative Science, Policy and Governance Studies 2018 (2nd ICAS-PGS 2018)” in Jakarta, 30th – 31th November 2018.

This second annual conference held by FIA UI raised the theme of “Advancing Policy, Governance, and Innovation in Digital Ecosystems: A Multidisciplinary Approach.”

“This Conference aims to explore the strategies and readiness of the government, business owners as well as the community in facing the digital era. This conference is a networking hub and is disseminated by various current studies in the field of administrative sciences,” explained Reza Fathurrahman, The Chairperson of ICASPGS 2018 to Kompas.com in between events.

He added that this conference will be attended by more than 300 experts and academicians from inside and outside the country.

The Challenge for Administrative sciences in the digital era

The main speakers for day one of the seminar were Prof. Mark Evans (University of Canberra, Australia), Prof. Wahyudi Kumorotomo, Ph.D (Universitas Gadjah Mada, Indonesia) and Prof. Eko Prasojo, The Dean of FIA UI which who was the former Deputy Minister of PANRB.

To Kompas.com, Mark Evans stated that there are 2 main challenges faced by Administrative Sciences in the digital era. “The first is the improvement in quality of technology-based public services and the second is the improvements of capabilities and competencies of digital-based administrative sciences as the main actors of public services,” explained Mark.

The same thing was said by Eko Prasojo, “ The problem is related to how to change new cultures and competencies related to the development of a digital area that is very massive and global. Competition doesn’t only happen in our country, but also other countries.”

He added, the demography of our country is dominated by the millennial generation, so how will Administrative Sciences encourage generations Y and Z to have a new culture and competencies in the new digital era.

FIA faces the Industrial Revolution 4.0, Eko Prasojo states that FIA UI will prepare 5 focuses, namely: policy, governance, innovation and institutional in facing the Industrial Revolution 4.0 in all study programs, including research collaboration.

“Preparing a lot of graduates coming from the millennial generation, University of Canberra will carry out a pattern of collaboration between lecturers and students. So no longer will lecturers provide one way knowledge, but will inspire and empower the millennial generation,” said Mark.

Eko Prasojo added that the curriculum must be able to adopt and adapt with the characteristics of the millennial generation which are “digital native”. “Their abilities need to be directed towards understanding, skills and expertise in digital governance, global governance and service base society,” Eko clarified.

He also reminded to not abandon the model mental preparation and ethics so that the graduates won’t lose their moral compass when they have plunged into the community.

Collaboration to create synergy

In the activities of this ICAS- PGS, FIA UI did a soft- launching of their Double Master Degree program in Public Administration in collaboration with the University of Canberra.

This program is designed for students who intend to study in Indonesia (for 1 year) and Australia (for 1 year) so that the student can get 2 degrees after finishing this study program. On the second day, FIA UI also released “Collaborative Center for Excellence in Transformative Leadership” alongside the University of Canberra and Universitas Gajah Mada (UGM). In the future, this institution will become a center for research and studies in the field of leadership.

Mimi Silvia, The Head of Public Relations and Protocol for FIA UI said “This conference, which is held on the 30th – 31st , will be divided into 3 sub-topics which represents departments under FIA UI which are Public administration, Business Administration and Fiscal Administration.”

This activity also presents domestic and foreign speakers such as from the University of Erfurt, Germany, University of Canberra, Australia, University of Philippines, Philippines. This conference also presents other main speakers such as Robert Pakpahan (Tax Directorate General, Kemenkeu), alongside Prof. Wahyudi Kumorotomo (Universitas Gajah Mada, Indonesia).
