The Faculty of Administrative Sciences, University of Indonesia (FIA UI) received a collaborative visit from Hasanuddin University (UNHAS) Makassar on Wednesday, 27 July 2022 afternoon at the FIA UI building in the context of sharing knowledge in developing postgraduate programs.

This event began with an opening by the FIA UI Leadership Secretary Dr. Umanto, S. Sos, M. Si introduced FIA UI. “FIA UI has three study programs in the undergraduate program, namely state administration, commercial administration, and fiscal administration. FIA UI also has postgraduate and doctoral programs,” said Dr. Umanto.

Welcoming the introduction from Umanto, Prof. Dr. Muh Akmal Ibrahim, M.Si representing the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences (FISIP) Hasanuddin University expressed his gratitude for the welcome from FIA UI.

“We thank you for having us at this time. The purpose of our visit is that we want to see closely what the management of the postgraduate program at FIA UI is like, especially in writing scientific papers for postgraduate students,” he said.

Besides that, Prof. Akmal explained that the purpose of this joint visit was to find out how to place UI as an exemplary partner. “Hopefully here we can discuss the management of the Masters and Doctoral programs at FIA UI,” he said.

Then, Secretary of the FIA UI Postgraduate Program Dr. phil. Reza Fathurrahman, MPP as the moderator gave a brief presentation about the postgraduate program at FIA UI as a trigger for discussion. “Based on the QS Ranking, FIA UI is included in the ranking of the top 100 best campuses in the world that offer administration science. Then, in ASEAN, FIA UI is in fifth position,” he explained.

Furthermore, Reza explained that at FIA UI itself there are several research clusters that are responsible for a professor namely CGC; CG-DPS; CIGOs; gaps; DeLOGO; Institute of Finance (InsKeu); PGAR, Poltax.

“Currently we are developing various programs namely CEP (Credit Earning Program), Join Courses with International Partner Universities, Visiting Professor Program, Sharing Sessions & Workshop Series, Global Lounge Program, Guest Lectures by Experts/Professionals/Public Officials,” said Reza .

FIA UI, said Reza, has eleven specializations at the master’s level and there is an additional double degree program. FIA UI master graduates will obtain an M.A degree with a study load of 40 credits and a study period of 4-6 semesters. Then, the teaching and learning process is carried out after office hours with a hybrid method, namely offline and online.

After the presentation from Dr. Reza, the event continued with a discussion session where representatives from Hasanuddin University stated that what was interesting at FIA UI was the specialization program. “How is the management of the specialization at FIA UI? Is it designed for all students from the first semester to graduation?” asked Prof. Akmal.

Dr. Umanto replied by stating that in accordance with the UI Regulations which came from the Chancellor, the curriculum at UI included study program curriculum and specialization curriculum. Later 50% of the total credits will come from the study program’s compulsory subjects. Then the rest are specialization programs that can be taken in full in semesters 3 and 4.

“What should be done for students who do not have a background in public administration?” asked Badu Ahmadi

“In the doctoral program, we will determine matriculation courses where students have to sit in on the master’s degree if they have different backgrounds. But in general students who have different scientific backgrounds can get lectures well. What we emphasize here is the student support system from their fellow students. Apart from that, we will also facilitate the provision of training or workshops that are tailored to the abilities of students,” said Reza.

For information, FIA UI representatives were also present, namely the Deputy Dean for Education, Research and Student Affairs Dr. Fibria Indriati, M.Si; Dr. phil.
