Indonesia’s democratic transition 20 years ago became a milestone in the formation of democratic governance. History records Habibie as the 3rd Indonesian President succeeding in guarding the democratic transition process. In addition, Habibie also gave birth to various policies that became the foundation in creating democratic governance in Indonesia.

The problem is, the homework isn’t done. Indonesia is still facing challenges where it is still currently ranked 102 from 104 in terms of government effectiveness. In addition, the quality of public services from 104 local governments is still around 45% in the red zone or considered low. Not to mention the capability of policymakers of more than 100 regional heads involved in corruption.

This problem became a discussion in the relationship between the leaders of the Faculty of Administrative Sciences Universitas Indonesia (FIA UI) and former Indonesian President B.J Habibie at Habibie’s residence in Patra Kuningan on Sunday (30/9).

To solve this problem the Dean of FIA UI, Prof. Dr. Eko Prasojo views that an institution that focuses on bolstering the strengthening of democratic governance is needed. In a 3-hour discussion, the former Deputy Minister of Ministry of Administrative and Bureaucratic Reform conveyed the initiation of the establishment of the Habibie Center for Public Policy and Governance within the University of Indonesia. “Later, the topics of the programs and activities is expected to be in the realm of policy research, advocacy, quality indexation and policy and governance, and the Habibie Award: Innovative Leadership and Policy ,” said Prof. Eko. This initiative was welcomed by Habibie with open arms.

As an information, the Faculty of Administrative Sciences is a faculty at UI which was established in 2015. Although this faculty is still young, it has been intensively collaborating with various universities abroad through research and master programs. Such as some of the best universities in Australia, New Zealand, Japan, South Korea, Germany and the United States. (MI)[/fusion_builder_column][/fusion_builder_row][/fusion_builder_container]
