One of the preparations done is to a public lecture which was held by the Research Cluster of Competitiveness and Government Corporation of the Faculty of Administrative Science Universitas Indonesia (CGC FIA UI), Thursday, (13/12) in the Auditorium of Building M FIA UI.

The public lecture which ,has the theme “Opportunitites, Challenges and Natural Resource Based Business Strategies”, explores the natural resources business (SDA) and non- life natural resources business. There were three speakers, these speakers were business practitioners. These speakers were Joinerri Kahar (CEO of AKA Group), Audy Joinaldy (CEO Perkasa Group) as well as the Professor of Business Administration, Prof. Dr. Chandra Wijaya, who was a business practitioner in the business of natural resources.

Joinerri brought up that opportunities to do the business of natural resources is very big and needs not only workers, but also young and new entrepreneurs who manage the natural resources. Becoming an entrepreneur is not easy, requires perseverance, networking and a good attitude, while still remaining closer to the Almighty.“ When succeeding, the here should be more enjoyment of being an entrepreneur than an employee”, he said.

The natural resources business ran by Joinerri consisted of biological natural resources (such as pearls and palm oil) and non biological natural resources (coal). The biggest challenge for coal at this China due to the trade war between America and China, which have impacted on the decline of coal demand. The same is said for palm oil, which also experience a decline in price due to the black campaign which was launched by the European Union. The strategy of companies to handle such challenges focuses on the efficiency of costs incurred, so that the company will survive.

Another thing happened to the Pearl business, where the price is generally good and stable, not affected by global issues. However, the challenge lies in the effort to raise and increase the size of pearls in order to produce perfect pearls without defects.

Natural resources in the form of livestock also have a chance to be as big or bigger compared to other natural resource businesses. However, Andy said that many bachelors at this moment haven’t been challenged to become an entrepreneur and instead only focuses on being an employee, even though, there are many business opportunities which should be managed by Indonesians but in the end got managed by foreigners. To become an entrepreneur, passion is needed. This passion can be found from family, the university or other places.

There are many natural resource business opportunities, but there is only a small amount of people who are attempting it, making Indonesia still a developing country until now. “To ‘change’ Indonesia needs more young businessmen and businesswomen, at least 2% of Indonesia’s population,” said Joinerri. He realised that to be an entrepreneur or an employee is a choice, but at this moment, Indonesia is facing a limited employment, so it needs more business people who can create more jobs and give contribution to the nation, said Joinerri as he closes the public lecture this time.
