Writing Clinic : A Medium to Improve Skills for Writers
There is a common understanding that certain skills as well as coaching/mentoring are two essentials for writers to produce a high quality journal article. In order to facilitate these necessities to our potential authors, BISNIS & BIROKRASI: Jurnal Ilmu Administrasi dan Organisasi (JBB) held an online Writing Clinic on Wednesday, August 5th, 2020 via Google Meet. The 10 participants on this year’s Writing Clinic are rounded up from presenters of the International Conference on Management in Emerging Markets (ICMEM) and International Graduates Colloquium (IGC) 2020 organized by Sekolah Bisnis dan Manajemen Institut Teknologi Bandung (SBM-ITB) and from internal selection process done by JBB Team.
The speaker at the Writing Clinic Workshop, Ardian Setiawan, is the Chief Editor at prosemantic.com. He delivered the materials in two sessions. The first session was titled “Improving Reading Effectiveness, Some Tools for Writing and Writing Approach”. “Authors’ lack of readings and their ineffective way of doing it have contributed to ‘writers’ block’ and other issues they have encountered during their writing process,” said Ardian. Ardian explained that to make a scientific reading more effective, writers should maximize their reading management skills in two ways. Firstly, writers should read effectively. Nowadays, by using advanced technology, we can use applications to understand some difficult words and also to summarize the text. Secondly, writers should be able to store and easily retrieve their readings, which can also be done by using applications.
