In the modern era marked by rapid technological advancements, Artificial Intelligence (AI) and digital development have become key drivers of inevitable change and innovation. From transforming how we work and interact with technology to influencing global economic dynamics, AI and digital development play an increasingly vital role in shaping our future.

Discussing AI and digital development opens doors to a world filled with both potential and challenges. Recognizing this, the Faculty of Administrative Sciences, Universitas Indonesia (FIA UI) hosted a Sharing Session between the Collaborative Governance & Dynamic Public Services (CG-DPS) Research Cluster and Visiting Scholar Dr. Kyung Ryul Park from KAIST, South Korea. The session, themed “Artificial Intelligence and Digital Development: Fostering Future Innovation and Collaboration,” highlighted the intersection of technology and collaboration.

“In today’s rapidly evolving digital era, the integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and digital development has sparked a wave of new innovations and collaborations across various sectors. With its ability to process massive amounts of data and generate meaningful insights, AI is at the forefront of transforming how we work, live, and interact with technology,” said Dr. Kyung Ryul Park, an Assistant Professor at the Graduate School of Science and Technology Policy and an Adjunct Professor at the KAIST College of Business.

Collaboration, according to Dr. Kyung, is a crucial factor in advancing a nation’s progress. AI facilitates this collaboration by enabling the exchange of ideas, information, and expertise. Whether it is global research teams working on AI-driven solutions or startups partnering with major corporations, the potential for cross-sector collaboration is immense.

“The convergence of AI and digital development holds great promise for shaping a future characterized by sustainable innovation and equitable collaboration. To fully harness AI’s potential in driving innovation and collaboration, it is essential for governments, businesses, and researchers to work together. This involves developing responsible AI policies, sharing best practices, and ensuring that the benefits of AI are equitably distributed,” he explained.

The Sharing Session was held on Friday, October 27, 2023, at the EDISI 2020 Auditorium, FIA UI Depok, with a total of 100 participants attending both online and offline. The event was organized by the CG-DPS research cluster.

During the session, Dr. Kyung Ryul Park provided a detailed explanation of his research focus on technology, governance, and global development. His core research areas include national development strategies, data-driven policies, ICT for Development (ICT4D), and global technology politics. His empirical research currently examines the role of digital innovation and big data in socio-economic development, with a specific focus on the diffusion of global data platforms, digital governance, and technology-based development policy dynamics.

Earlier that day, FIA UI and Dr. Kyung Ryul Park discussed potential collaboration opportunities, particularly in the areas of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Digital Policy, with the aim of optimizing innovation and future collaborations. This discussion took place on Friday morning, October 27, 2023, in the Main Meeting Room of FIA UI.

The event has opened doors to various potential collaborations, including joint research, co-teaching, strategic collaborative meetings, and more. It is hoped that Dr. Kyung Ryul Park’s presence at FIA UI and the Sharing Session will foster greater collaboration between international academics and the FIA UI academic community.

The CG-DPS Research Cluster, together with Dr. Kyung Ryul Park, is committed to building mutually beneficial collaborations and making significant contributions to the development of knowledge and policy within the CG-DPS field.
