Program Description

The Summer and Winter Program at the Faculty of Administrative Science Universitas Indonesia (FIA UI) is designed to provide students with a comprehensive learning experience in Indonesia’s administrative systems, governance, public policymaking, and cultural heritage. Participants will engage in a variety of activities, including interactive classes led by esteemed faculty members. The program also includes Institutional Visit to various agencies in Indonesia.

In addition to academic learning, the program offers cultural excursions and practical activities that allow participants to explore Indonesia’s rich cultural diversity. These activities provide a holistic understanding of Indonesian society and values. The program outcome is a policy note/brief of each group to be presented and submitted at the end of the program. The Summer and Winter Program aims to create memorable and enriching experience, blending academic activity with cultural immersion while promoting international cooperation and understanding.

Course Details

1. Indonesia Administrative System

This course block covers the theory and practice of administration in Indonesia. In line with FIA UI’s academic foundations, the program explores policy analysis, governance, institutions, culture, and future directions through public, fiscal, and business perspectives on contemporary issues.

2. Sustainable Development Goals in Indonesia

This course block will introduce the intricacies of environmental governance in Indonesia, focusing on the nation’s strategies and policies to address the issues that are present. Students will gain knowledge to critically analyse and contribute to the discourse on environmental governance in Indonesia.

3. Institutional Visit

In addition to classroom activities, visits to institutions, government bodies, businesses, and non-governmental organizations are also highlights of the summer and winter programs. Several institutions that have previously hosted participants of FIA UI’s summer and winter programs include: the Ministry of Environment and Forestry (2024), CIFOR-ICRAF (2024), ASEAN (2024), DAAD (2025), and Jakarta Smart City (2025).”

4. Cultural Activities

Students will experience an interactive cultural activity and field trip to Indonesia cultural center to important cultural landmark and activities in Indonesia such as Taman Mini Indonesia Indah and Membatik (Batik Painting).

Note: Topic on course 1 and 2 will be adjusted according to participating institutions academic interest. Thus, for every Summer Program, the topic might be different.

Joint Student Mobility between FIA UI and School of Public Affairs, Zhejiang University “Asia Student Leadership and Cultural Mobility”

19-23 January 2026

The Faculty of Administrative Science, Universitas Indonesia (FIA UI) in collaboration with School of Public Affairs Zhejiang University offers an engaging Winter Program for international undergraduate students, combining business and administrative concepts with experiential learning through company visits and study tours. The program introduces participants to the Indonesian economy and business ecosystem, as well as cross-cultural management and business practices in Indonesia. Conducted offline at Universitas Indonesia and Bandung, West Java, the program features lectures by experts from Universitas Indonesia and cultural activities with local FIA UI students, allowing participants to gain academic insight while engaging in meaningful cross-cultural interaction.

Short Course on “Environmental Governance: Innovative Governance Approaches to Address Contemporary Environmental Challenges”

22-24 June 2026 (Online) and 29 June – 3 July
(Offline at Universitas Indonesia Campus, Depok)

This short course explores environmental and disaster governance through policy analysis, comparative perspectives, and practical experiences. The program includes online briefings, interactive lectures, institutional visits, and group discussions. Participants will learn about key actors, challenges, environmental politics, climate governance, and community-based approaches, and will develop practical skills in policy analysis and advocacy through group presentations and a policy brief.
