Hangzhou, China, May 30, 2026 – The Faculty of Administrative Sciences, Universitas Indonesia (FIA UI), has reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening global academic networks through its participation as one of the Founding Members in the establishment of the Asian School of Public Affairs Association (ASPAA). This involvement was formalized during the ASPAA Inauguration Ceremony and 1st ASPAA Leadership Roundtable held at Zhejiang University, Hangzhou, China.
ASPAA is an association established by five leading universities worldwide, namely Zhejiang University (QS WUR #49), Nanyang Technological University (QS WUR #12), City University of Hong Kong (QS WUR #63), the University of Macau (QS WUR #285), and Universitas Indonesia (QS WUR #189). Universitas Indonesia’s presence as one of the founding institutions reflects international recognition of its academic capacity and contribution to the advancement of public affairs, public policy, and governance studies at both regional and global levels.
FIA UI represented Universitas Indonesia through the participation of Prof. Teguh Kurniawan, Vice Dean for Education, Research, and Student Affairs of FIA UI, who attended on behalf of the Dean of FIA UI. The forum was also attended by several leaders of international higher education institutions, including Prof. Zhirong Zhao from Zhejiang University, Assoc. Prof. Wang Jue from Nanyang Technological University, Prof. Alfred Ho from the City University of Hong Kong, and Prof. Yonghong Wu from the University of Macau.
The establishment of ASPAA marks a strategic step toward strengthening networks among Schools of Public Affairs across Asia while promoting the development of Asian perspectives in public affairs studies. Furthermore, the association is expected to expand international collaboration in education and research, strengthen the exchange of ideas, and enhance global impact in the development of public policy and governance.
Through ASPAA’s inaugural leadership forum, participants discussed various opportunities for cross-border collaboration, academic capacity building, and public administration challenges faced across Asia and the wider world. The dialogue served as a strategic platform for fostering closer collaboration among higher education institutions in responding to increasingly complex global governance changes.
