Hong Kong, March 23, 2026 – Universitas Indonesia (UI) continues to expand its global academic network through the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Hong Kong Metropolitan University (HKMU). Held at the HKMU campus, the event marked an important milestone in strengthening collaboration between the two institutions in the areas of education, research, and student capacity development.
This partnership is considered highly strategic in light of HKMU’s growing international reputation. The university recently achieved a significant milestone by making its debut in the QS World University Rankings 2026 as the first self-financing university and University of Applied Sciences in Hong Kong to be included in the rankings. In addition, HKMU is ranked 393rd in the QS Asia University Rankings 2026 and has three academic programs placed among the Top 150 globally according to the QS World University Rankings by Subject.
The Universitas Indonesia delegation was led by UI Rector, Prof. Dr. Ir. Heri Hermansyah, accompanied by university and faculty leaders, including Prof. Dr. Hamdi Muluk (Vice Rector for Research and Innovation), Fadhilah Muslim, Ph.D. (Director of Internationalization of Education), Prof. Yon Machmudi (Deputy Director of the School of Environmental Science and Sustainable Development), Vishnu Juwono, Ph.D. (Director of UI GreenMetric), Dr. Untung Yuwono (Dean of the Faculty of Humanities), and Dr. Brian Amy Prasetyo, M.H. (Vice Dean of the Faculty of Law).
The Faculty of Administrative Science (FIA UI) was represented by its Dean, Prof. Dr. Dra. Retno Kusumastuti, M.Si., alongside Prof. Dr. Teguh Kurniawan, M.Sc. (Vice Dean for Education, Research, and Student Affairs), Prof. Dr. Milla Sepliana Setyowati, M.Ak. (Vice Dean for Resources, Venture, and General Administration), Dr. Eko Sakapurnama, MBA, CHRM (Head of Graduate Program), and Tyas Wida Handoko, S.I.A., M.Sc. (Coordinator for Graduate Program Development).
The UI delegation was warmly welcomed by HKMU leadership, including Prof. Paul Lam (President), Prof. Alan Au (Vice President for Strategic Initiatives), Prof. Roger Scully (Dean of the School of Arts and Social Sciences), and Prof. Matthew Lee (Acting Dean of the Lee Shau Kee School of Business and Administration), along with other senior officials.
During the meeting, the UI Rector reaffirmed the university’s commitment to ensuring that every partnership is oriented toward tangible implementation. UI presented a collaboration roadmap that begins with joint research and joint supervision, followed by the development of visiting professor programs in the medium term, and the exploration of double degree programs as a long-term goal through curriculum mapping and program alignment.
In addition, UI proposed non-degree initiatives such as Indonesian Language and Culture training programs for expatriates, particularly Chinese workers whose numbers continue to grow in Indonesia, as a response to evolving global labor dynamics.
From the Faculty of Administrative Science, the Dean of FIA UI emphasized the strengthening of collaboration through the existing International Special Class (KKI) at the undergraduate level. FIA UI is also preparing to implement a global immersion program in 2026, which will involve HKMU MBA students engaging directly in the academic environment of FIA UI.
Beyond the MoU signing and discussions, the UI delegation also had the opportunity to visit several of HKMU’s flagship facilities. One highlight was the nursing laboratory equipped with Anatomage technology, a life-sized interactive 3D virtual dissection table. This advanced technology enables students to study human anatomy in depth through high-resolution digital simulations without the need for physical cadavers, offering an innovative and comprehensive learning experience.
Through this visit, both UI and HKMU are expected to promptly realize impactful collaborative programs while further strengthening their positions in the global higher education landscape.
