Depok, April 28, 2026 — The Faculty of Administrative Sciences, Universitas Indonesia (FIA UI), held a workshop titled “Navigating the World of Academic Publishing”, featuring Prof. William G.S. Yeoh from the Lee Shau Kee School of Business and Administration, Hong Kong Metropolitan University. The event was conducted in a hybrid format and attended by lecturers, researchers, and members of the FIA UI academic community.

The workshop was opened by Rijal Ramdhani, S.Sos., who highlighted the importance of journal management for lecturers as part of academic career development and scholarly contribution. He emphasized that journal management goes beyond the publication process, encompassing strategies to maintain article quality, ensure journal sustainability, and enhance the global reach of research. Effective journal management, he noted, can expand academic networks, strengthen institutional reputation, and open opportunities for research collaboration.

Participants were then introduced to strategies for selecting reputable publishers and journals. Academics were encouraged to consider publisher credibility, journal indexing, and alignment between the journal’s scope and their research topics. Several international publishers, including IGI Global, Taylor & Francis, and Inderscience Publishers, were mentioned as references. In addition, understanding open access schemes was highlighted as essential to broaden access to publications and to increase research reach and citations through academic platforms such as ResearchGate. International collaboration was also emphasized as a key factor in enhancing the quality and impact of research.

In the following session, Prof. William G.S. Yeoh discussed strategies for Academic Publication and Monetization, positioning scholarly work not only as an academic output but also as having economic value. He explained that academics can generate income through book publications, conference proceedings, and participation in international academic forums. Opportunities also exist through roles as professional journal editors or by independently publishing books on digital platforms.

The discussion further highlighted the role of artificial intelligence (AI) in research and academic publishing. The use of AI was considered effective in improving efficiency in writing and data analysis processes, although it requires transparency through proper acknowledgment in publications. At the same time, the use of AI detection tools is emerging to maintain academic integrity against content generated automatically.

Furthermore, participants were encouraged to understand the importance of global academic outreach through the use of social media in disseminating research findings. Academics need to identify target audiences and choose appropriate platforms based on the characteristics of different regions. Publication promotion strategies were seen as key to increasing readership while attracting more submissions.

Through this workshop, FIA UI reaffirmed its commitment to enhancing the quality of research and academic publications, while equipping its academic community with relevant strategies to strengthen their contribution and global visibility.
