Depok, June 26, 2025 — The Faculty of Administrative Sciences, Universitas Indonesia (FIA UI), held a Studium Generale as part of its 10th Anniversary celebration, bringing forward a highly relevant theme for Indonesia’s future: the role of artificial intelligence (AI) in government innovation and how Generation Z’s competencies need to be prepared to face these developments. The event took place on Thursday, June 26, 2025, at Balai Purnomo, Universitas Indonesia, Depok Campus.
In this discussion, FIA UI brought together experts from both the public and private sectors to explore how AI can act as a catalyst for policy innovation in the public sector and emphasize the importance of equipping the younger generation, especially Gen Z, with the necessary competencies to thrive in the AI era.
The Rector of Universitas Indonesia, Prof. Dr. Ir. Heri Hermansyah, S.T., M.Eng., IPU, stated in his remarks that the event reflects FIA UI and UI’s efforts to ensure that education remains relevant in the face of rapid technological changes.
“The Faculty of Administrative Sciences is committed to continuously developing the field of administrative sciences by focusing on five pillars: governance, policy, institutions, culture, and innovation. This is aligned with UI’s efforts to be an impactful, leading university for Indonesia. Currently, UI ranks 189th globally according to the 2026 QS World University Rankings. Therefore, UI continues to strive for quality education, impactful research, and meaningful community service,” explained Prof. Heri.
On this occasion, the Dean of FIA UI, Prof. Dr. Dra. Retno Kusumastuti Hardjono, M.Si., also presented a book titled “FIA UI Policy Brief Compilation for Asta Cita: Policy Solutions for Indonesia’s Future,” representing FIA UI’s and administrative science’s contribution to a better Indonesia.
Dr. M. Subhan Iswahyudi, Senior General Manager of Telkom Corporate University, shared his insights on the telecommunications industry’s strategy for preparing Gen Z to be competent and adaptive in the face of AI-driven technological disruption.
“Telkom’s AI roadmap prioritizes value creation by developing AI-driven solutions. This is part of our effort to adapt to Gen Z’s learning styles as digital natives who are independent and collaborative learners. All of this is aimed at preparing a ready pool of digital talents and future digital leaders,” said Subhan.
Sonny Hendra Sudaryana, Director of Digital Ecosystem Development at the Ministry of Communication and Information Technology of the Republic of Indonesia, also spoke on the strategic role of AI in supporting public sector innovation.
The discussion was moderated by Muhammad Yopan, a lecturer at FIA UI and Government Account Lead at Amazon Web Services (AWS), who was also one of the supporting partners of this event.
The Studium Generale was open to students, faculty, alumni, and the general public, aiming to serve as a platform for knowledge exchange and to build collective awareness on the urgency of preparing for digital transformation, particularly in the public and private sectors.
This event also marked the opening of FIA UI’s 10th Anniversary series, which will continue with the Road to Homecoming Day and Homecoming Day from July to September 2025, as part of FIA UI’s efforts to strengthen synergy with alumni, industry partners, and all stakeholders.
