Depok, 28 October 2025 — The Faculty of Administrative Sciences, Universitas Indonesia (FIA UI), in collaboration with the Indonesian Cancer Foundation (Lembaga Kanker Indonesia/LKI), organized an Early Cancer Prevention Awareness Program for the FIA UI academic community. The activity featured Joshua Cahyo Mentari, S.K.M., from the Indonesian Cancer Foundation as the speaker.
The program aimed to increase awareness among the FIA UI academic community about the importance of cancer prevention and early detection. In his presentation, the speaker explained various cancer risk factors as well as preventive measures that can be taken from an early stage.
Joshua explained that cancer risk factors can originate from genetic or hereditary factors, exposure to chemical and physical agents such as cigarettes and electromagnetic waves, as well as food and beverages containing carcinogenic substances. In addition, improper food processing and preparation methods also contribute to the risk of cancer cell development in the body.
“The factors are actually already well known, but we often tend to be negligent. In fact, awareness to avoid risk factors and maintain a healthy lifestyle is the first step in preventing cancer,” said Joshua.
The session also discussed the prevention of prostate, breast, and cervical cancer, including the importance of early screening such as PSA tests, Pap smears, and mammography to detect early signs of the disease. The speaker emphasized that early detection is crucial because the sooner it is identified, the greater the chances of successful treatment.
In addition to medical education, participants also received simple health tips that can be practiced amid busy daily activities. One of them is performing light movements every two hours while working, such as light squats, to maintain blood circulation and reduce the risk of metabolic disorders.
Through this activity, FIA UI demonstrated its commitment to supporting increased health awareness and healthy lifestyles within the campus environment. The awareness program is expected to encourage the entire academic community to be more attentive to cancer prevention and to adopt healthy living habits in their daily lives.
