Depok, April 24, 2026 — The Department of Fiscal Administration, Faculty of Administrative Sciences, Universitas Indonesia (FIA UI), held a public lecture titled “VAT on Electronic Commerce Policies and Comparisons with Other Countries” at the EDISI 2020 Auditorium, Building M, FIA UI Depok Campus.

The event featured Badai Yuda Pratama, S.Sos., an alumnus of FIA UI’s Fiscal Administration program and the Main Outstanding Student of FISIP UI in 2016, as the keynote speaker.

The public lecture discussed recent developments in Indonesia’s Value Added Tax on Electronic Commerce (VAT on PMSE) policy and compared it with digital taxation practices in various countries. The topic is considered increasingly relevant amid the rapid growth of the digital economy and the rise of cross-border transactions involving electronically supplied services.

In his presentation, Badai Yuda Pratama explained that VAT regulations on digital services serve as an important instrument in maintaining tax fairness between conventional businesses and global digital service providers. In addition, the policy also plays a significant role in broadening the state revenue base amid ongoing digital economic transformation.

The discussion also highlighted various international approaches to imposing VAT on electronic services, including the appointment mechanism for tax collectors, registration thresholds, determination of customer location, and the responsibilities of digital platforms in collecting and remitting taxes. Through this comparative study, participants gained insights into the challenges and opportunities in developing Indonesia’s digital tax policies.

The event was moderated by Wisamodro Jati, S.Sos., M.Int.Tax., M.H., a lecturer at FIA UI. The discussion was highly interactive, with enthusiastic participation from students who actively raised questions regarding the implementation of VAT on PMSE, global regulatory developments, and the future of taxation in the digital economy.

Through this public lecture, FIA UI reaffirmed its commitment to providing a learning environment that is responsive to contemporary issues, particularly in the fields of fiscal administration and taxation policy. The presence of an alumnus as speaker also reflected sustainable collaboration between the university and its graduates in strengthening the academic ecosystem and enhancing student capacity development.

This activity is expected to broaden students’ perspectives on the dynamics of international taxation while encouraging innovative ideas for strengthening Indonesia’s taxation system in the future.
