Reflection for Indonesia from the Perspective of Bureaucracy

This was stated by the Dean of the Faculty of Administrative Science Universitas Indonesia (FIA UI) Eko Prasojo in the Nationality Forum event which was held by Universitas Indonesia (UI) in the Campus Convention Center in UI Depok, Wednesday (2/5/18).

“Firstly, there is the need to build basic values and culture that are more established in the bureaucracy, because the problem of Indonesia in general is the weakness of its effectiveness, efficiency, and capability of its government alongside the weakness of control towards corruption” he said.

Then, Eko Prasojo explained that the preparation of the national talent pool of government HR must be a priority.
“Developed countries such as South Korea, Japan and china all have a similar strategy to advance, which is to place the nation’s best as policy makers” explained Eko.

Aside from that, matching the HR needs with the needs of national development is important given the many inefficiencies happening in the government.

“Based on the data from KemenpanRB, as many as 398 trillion of Government funding flows to institutions that doesn’t have an efficient performance. The funds could have been used to develop infrastructure and human investment, which I think would’ve been better,” explained Eko.

Lastly, according to him, a mental revolution could be started from a young age, from the age range of kids to teens.

“The focus on the education of kids from a young age in“The focus on the education of kids from a young age to high school could take the form of character education, while higher education focuses on research that supports policy making for government and industry,” he explained.
