Teluk Pang-pang, Banyuwangi, August 7, 2024 – The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), established by the United Nations, aim to end poverty, protect the planet, and ensure that all people enjoy peace and prosperity by 2030.
Based on research conducted by Prof. Dr. Teguh Kurniawan, M.Sc., (Head of the ICG FIA UI Research Cluster) in collaboration with the GOGREEN Project and Prof. Jacob Torfing (Roskilde University) in Teluk Pang-pang, Banyuwangi, it was found that many village officials still lack a comprehensive understanding of the SDGs and how to integrate them into village planning.
To address this issue, a community service initiative was organized to enhance the knowledge and skills of village officials in integrating SDGs into village planning and activities. The initiative targeted village apparatus in Kedunggebang, Wringinputih, Kedungasri, and Kedungringin in Banyuwangi.
The event was attended by 30 participants from the four villages and involved not only village officials but also community members who actively participated in the activities. The East Java Forestry Service Branch in the Banyuwangi region and the Banyuwangi Environmental Agency also supported the implementation of the program.
In addition to providing socialization efforts to strengthen knowledge on sustainable development, participants were given the opportunity to gain hands-on experience in identifying village issues related to sustainability and developing solutions aligned with village planning.
This collaborative research and community service initiative will continue on an annual basis. Beyond SDGs Hub UI, future collaborations will be expanded to include various partners such as NGOs, domestic and international academics, and private sectors in the short, medium, and long term. This ongoing effort aims to ensure the successful adaptation of global agendas like the SDGs, starting from the grassroots level—villages.
