Teluk Pang-pang, Banyuwangi, August 7, 2024 – The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) set by the United Nations aim to end poverty, protect the planet, and ensure that all people enjoy peace and prosperity by 2030.
According to research conducted by Prof. Dr. Teguh Kurniawan, M.Sc. (Head of the ICG FIA UI Research Cluster) in collaboration with the GOGREEN Project and Prof. Jacob Torfing (Roskilde University) in Teluk Pang-pang, Banyuwangi, many village officials still lack a comprehensive understanding of the SDGs and how to incorporate them into village planning.
To address this, the community service program aims to enhance the understanding and capabilities of village officials in Kedunggebang, Wringinputih, Kedungasri, and Kedungringin, Banyuwangi, in integrating the SDGs into village plans and activities.
The event was attended by 30 participants from the four villages, involving not only village officials but also community members who actively participated. The East Java Forestry Office, Banyuwangi branch, and the Banyuwangi Environmental Office also supported the implementation of this program.
In addition to providing education to strengthen knowledge on sustainable development, the program engaged participants in hands-on experiences to identify village issues related to sustainability and develop solutions aligned with village planning.
This collaborative research and community service initiative will continue annually. In addition to working with SDGs Hub UI, FIA UI plans to expand collaboration with various partners, including NGOs, academics from domestic and international institutions, and the private sector. This ongoing cooperation aims to ensure the SDGs agenda is effectively implemented at the most fundamental level—villages.
