The Faculty of Administrative Sciences, Universitas Indonesia (FIA UI) hosted the 4th International Conference on Administrative Science, Policy, and Governance Studies (ICAS-PGS) and the 5th International Conference on Business Administration and Policy (ICBAP) 2024 on Wednesday, July 24, 2024, and Thursday, July 25, 2024, at the EDISI Auditorium, 4th Floor, Building M, FIA UI, Depok.
This conference serves as an essential platform to explore the role of innovation in organizational policy, encompassing the development of new ideas, strategies, and frameworks to enhance organizational effectiveness, efficiency, and adaptability. In response to the increasing complexity of the modern environment in both the public and private sectors, innovative policies are crucial to achieving strategic objectives and ensuring organizational resilience.
Dr. Fibria Indriati, M.Si, Vice Dean for Education, Research, and Student Affairs at FIA UI, welcomed the conference, which carries the theme: “Organizational Policy and Innovation: Building Resilience in the Face of Dual Disruption and the Digital Era.” This theme highlights the importance of adaptive policies in addressing contemporary challenges.
“As we gather to discuss the impact of technological advances and global disruptions, we emphasize the need for resilient policies to enhance organizational effectiveness and social stability,” said Dr. Fibria.
Dr. Maria R.U.D. Tambunan, S.I.A., M.E., Chair of ICAS-PGS and ICBAP 2024, noted that the event attracted participants from diverse backgrounds, including academics, politicians, students, policymakers, and private sector representatives. They were invited to share their research findings, developments, and practical solutions related to the challenges in public and private sector administration.
One of the keynote speakers was Prof. Ayano Hirose Nishihara, Dean and Associate Professor at the College of Business, Rikkyo University, Japan, who delivered a presentation titled “Innovation in Organization and Knowledge Management in Japan.” Prof. Ayano emphasized the importance of adaptability in the age of AI, where collaboration between artificial intelligence (AI) and human resources (HR) is essential.
She highlighted that to accurately predict the future, it is necessary to actively shape it by bridging the gap between the present and the future, as our thoughts and actions directly influence what lies ahead.
“There are three stages of innovation: from ‘zero to one,’ which is human-centered and involves the emergence of new ideas requiring creativity; to ‘nine to ten,’ which also returns to human needs, focusing on sensory and aesthetic satisfaction. Between these is the ‘one to nine’ stage, which is machine-centered, where human intelligence and the utilization of AI and other digital technologies are key,” explained Prof. Ayano.
Following Prof. Ayano’s presentation, the conference continued with a plenary session led by Andrew A. Wiranata, Chief Strategy Officer of PT Blue Bird Tbk, who presented on “Innovation in PT Blue Bird.”
Andrew emphasized that technology adoption is a critical factor in driving corporate innovation at Blue Bird. Despite efforts to accelerate services and technology while differentiating themselves through innovation, Blue Bird acknowledges that it is not immune to disruption.
“The pandemic increased the use of digital channels by over 30%, yet direct call services remain the primary choice for customers. Blue Bird’s presence at key customer touchpoints is a major reason why direct calls continue to be preferred,” Andrew noted.
He also mentioned that regulatory changes and infrastructure development are transformational policies, particularly in areas such as traffic regulation and connectivity, requiring new approaches to bridge gaps in the first-mile and last-mile market segments.
“After facing disruption, Blue Bird accelerated its digital transformation journey by strengthening corporate values, adopting sustainability initiatives like solar panels and the Bluebird Academy, and reinforcing the ANDAL values to remain relevant to consumers. By leveraging its core strength in mobility services and integrating technology, Blue Bird aims to create a safe, efficient, sustainable, and user-friendly transportation system that enhances urban living and functionality,” he explained.
Andrew underscored that through the 3M strategy (Multi-Channel, Multi-Payment, Multi-Product), Blue Bird continues to advance its transformation toward Mobility as a Service (MaaS). This strategy is built on technological pillars such as location intelligence, mobility applications, big data analytics, AI technology, and data security.
The conference was attended by approximately 150 participants from various countries, including Indonesia, the Philippines, and others.
