Social entrepreneurship is a process carried out by entrepreneurs to create something that does not happen spontaneously, but is built through the search and analysis of opportunities in environments with different conditions and unmet needs.
The statement above is the definition of social entrepreneurship conveyed by Prof. Dr. Amy Yayuk Sri Rahayu, M.Si or often called Prof. Amy in the MPKT Public Lecture, Faculty of Administrative Sciences, University of Indonesia (FIA UI) with the topic The Importance of Developing Social Entrepreneurship Skills in Building Social Awareness on Wednesday (8/6/2022) morning.
The event started with the delivery of an introduction by Wulandari Kartika Sari, S.Sos, MA as the Coordinator of the MPKT Course by saying that this general lecture was a form of support from FIA UI professors and faculties to facilitate students to achieve MPKT course achievements, where skills Social entrepreneurship is one aspect of the assessment.
“The development of the times requires UI students as scholars to hone their ability to adapt and contribute to solving problems in their environment with their administrative knowledge and one of them is entrepreneurial innovation,” said Wulandari.
Furthermore, Wahyu Mahendra, M.Egov as the moderator explained about the life history of Prof. Amy. Then, Prof. Amy also started delivering MPKT learning materials by explaining the definition of social entrepreneurship
“There are at least 4 main aspects of entrepreneurship, namely prospective entrepreneurs, the need for satisfaction, the context and supporting sources, the results in the form of services, products, and impacts,” he explained.
Prof. Amy explained that fundamentally, entrepreneurship is not always related to an economic perspective or market satisfaction, but focuses on change and how people’s needs can be met in innovative ways.
“Social entrepreneurship is actually a phenomenon that is not new, but the concept has been used for decades in the international public, social and economic sectors, government, companies, and others,” said Prof. Amy.
Then, the event continued with the presentation of Social Entrepreneurship ideas by several groups from various MPKT classes starting with class F who presented the idea, namely LifeStrawGo, which is a drinking bottle innovation that converts dirty water into ready-to-drink water where all group members explain their background, goals, and budget details for realize the idea.
After that, the presentation was continued by another group from class F who brought the idea of agriculture, namely Rangkul Tani, which is a start-up engaged in farmer-oriented services to help farmers sell their products.
“If this is an original idea, it’s really good, yes. But if it’s not original, you have to ask permission from the originator of the idea to implement your proposal idea, because you made a change to the product,” suggested Prof. Amy.
After the F class presentation, the presentation was continued by B class who brought the idea of mental health with the idea of creating the LovingMe application: A New Way of Loving Yourself which aims to provide a forum for the public to consult about mental health.
Then, another group from class B also presented the idea of social entrepreneurship with the same theme, namely mental health by launching the Peduliin Aku application which aims to help provide a mental health platform.
“Both of these ideas, social entrepreneurship is very visible, namely by helping people’s health. However, it is necessary to pay attention to risk management because the capital is quite high because they have to use the application, especially later if this application is not known by the wider community. In addition, it is also necessary to pay attention to the use of the name of the application from an ethical point of view, so that it does not lead to a negative image of people,” concluded Prof. Amy.
Finally, the presentation was closed by class D who raised the idea of Rendang Frozen Food in order to introduce traditional culture with the principle of entrepreneurship. Prof. Amy considered the idea a good idea.
“It is necessary to pay attention to the use of names, yes. Make sure the name is unique and characterizes the product being sold. Then, competition for food products in the market is high, so try to do research first by adjusting to the tastes of the target market, “said Prof. Amy.
