Professor of the Faculty of Administrative Sciences, Universitas Indonesia (FIA UI), Prof. Dr. Eko Prasojo, Mag.rer.publ., conducted an academic visit to the TalTech School of Business and Governance and participated in an international conference.

The visit took place from May 9 to 17, during which Prof. Eko served as a guest lecturer for the course Non-Western Public Administration (NWPA). In addition to teaching, he also delivered a public lecture titled “Administrative Reform in Indonesia: Impacts, Challenges, and Future Directions.”

Prof. Eko’s involvement is part of an ongoing collaboration with Prof. Wolfgang Drechsler through the Innovation in Public Value (IPV Net) network and other collaborative initiatives in the field of Public Administration.

In both the lecture and public class, Prof. Eko presented a comprehensive analysis of public administration practices in Indonesia, focusing on the civil service system and reforms implemented over the past few decades. Through a historical approach, he traced the development of Indonesia’s state administration since independence, highlighting key transformations along the way.

He also addressed local dynamics at the sub-national and regional government levels, which play a strategic role in determining the quality of public policy and service delivery. Additionally, he offered an in-depth explanation of meritocracy as the core of civil service reform, including its intersections with politics, bureaucracy, and the cultural context that influences its successful implementation.

Beyond his lectures, Prof. Eko is also scheduled to attend an international conference taking place on May 17 in Bratislava.

As a side note, Prof. Eko’s visit was warmly welcomed by Ms. Andante Widi Arundhati, Chargé d’Affaires a.i., and Ms. Amelia at the Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia in Helsinki, representing the Indonesian diplomatic mission. Furthermore, TalTech Rector, Prof. Tiit Land who was recently re-elected also welcomed the visit personally.

Overall, this activity not only strengthens international academic collaboration but also broadens global understanding of the Indonesian public administration context.
