The Faculty of Administrative Sciences (FIA) at Universitas Indonesia (UI) organized a tree planting event at the New FIA UI Building in Depok on the morning of August 16, 2024. This initiative is part of FIA UI’s ongoing commitment to support environmental conservation efforts and create green spaces around the campus.

The event involved more than 600 participants, including faculty leadership, the Student Affairs Coordinator, the Student Executive Board (BEM), the Student Representative Board (BPM), the Parent Association (IOM), and new FIA UI students.

Various types of trees, including fruit-bearing and shade trees, were planted in designated open areas around the faculty buildings. The tree seedlings were provided by environmental organizations and campus partners dedicated to preserving nature.

“Today’s tree planting is a tangible manifestation of our commitment to environmental preservation. Each tree we plant will not only beautify the campus but also make a significant contribution to reducing our carbon footprint and providing cleaner air. We hope this activity inspires the entire community to be more mindful of the environment around us,” said FIA UI Dean, Prof. Dr. Chandra Wijaya, M.Si., M.M.

During the event, participants also attended an educational session led by environmental experts, focusing on the importance of conservation and tree maintenance techniques. They received practical knowledge on caring for newly planted trees, including watering, fertilizing, and pest protection. This educational session aimed to ensure the trees grow successfully and provide long-term environmental benefits.

In addition to the tree planting, FIA UI plans to continue sustainability efforts through ongoing tree monitoring and maintenance and by integrating environmental sustainability themes into the curriculum and campus activities. These programs are designed to encourage active participation from students and staff in environmental preservation efforts.

Prof. Dr. Chandra added, “We believe that education combined with real action is the key to creating positive change. By involving the entire campus community in this initiative, we are not only planting trees but also planting awareness about the importance of protecting the environment for future generations.”

This tree planting initiative is expected to serve as a model for other educational institutions to adopt sustainable practices in their own contexts. Through collective efforts, FIA UI remains committed to supporting initiatives that promote a greener and more sustainable environment.
