Depok, January 10, 2025 – The Coordinating Minister for Infrastructure and Regional Development of the Republic of Indonesia (RI), Major (Ret.) Dr. H. Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono, M.Sc., M.P.A., M.A., officially inaugurated the new building of the Faculty of Administrative Sciences (FIA) at the University of Indonesia (UI) on Friday (10/1). The inauguration ceremony was marked by the signing of the commemorative plaque by Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono, accompanied by the Minister of Public Works (PU) RI, Ir. Dody Hanggodo, MPE.; Member IV of the Supreme Audit Board (BPK) RI, Haerul Saleh, S.H., CRA., CRP., CIABV., CSFA., CertDA., CFrA.; Deputy Minister of Public Works, Ir. Diana Kusumastuti, M.T.; UI Rector, Prof. Dr. Ir. Heri Hermansyah, S.T., M.Eng., IPU.; FIA UI Dean, Prof. Dr. Chandra Wijaya, M.Si., M.M.; along with UI Vice Rectors, heads of agencies, and other university leaders.
In his opening remarks, Agus Yudhoyono expressed his hope that the new building would strengthen UI—particularly FIA—in implementing the Tri Dharma of Higher Education: education, research, and community service. He also urged the entire UI academic community to take collective responsibility in maintaining the newly built facilities.
“Hopefully, UI will continue to inspire other universities by becoming an ideal and leading campus on its path to becoming a world-class institution, producing future generations who are excellent and impactful, as UI has always strived to do,” Agus Yudhoyono stated.
He further emphasized that when government and bureaucracy maintain close collaboration with academic institutions, public policy-making in Indonesia will remain on track and become even more impactful. According to him, this connection is grounded in abstract values, real-life experience, and empirical studies.
“I firmly believe that this type of collaboration will continue to strengthen our efforts to realize the Indonesia we aspire to. President Prabowo Subianto has clearly stated that if Indonesia is to progress, its human resources must be prepared as effectively as possible. Higher education institutions, especially the University of Indonesia, have a moral responsibility to prepare students who will eventually enter the professional world,” he said.
Agus added that there is always a close relationship between knowledge, practical field experience, and decision-making at both the national and regional levels. He also affirmed that the Coordinating Ministry for Infrastructure and Regional Development, as a newly established institution, is ready to collaborate with all stakeholders.
“We aim to foster economic growth and enhance regional connectivity to make human life and work, as well as the transportation of goods and services, more efficient,” he added.
Meanwhile, Dody Hanggodo detailed the construction process of the new FIA UI building, which began in 2022 with a total budget of approximately IDR 126 billion. The building stands on a 1.3-hectare site and consists of nine floors and one rooftop. He also highlighted the building’s comprehensive facilities, including 33 classrooms, four laboratory rooms, an auditorium, an office for the dean, two offices for vice deans, four faculty offices, and a dedicated space for senior professors.
“These facilities are designed to support both students and faculty members in their academic and administrative activities. The building adheres to technical standards, ensuring safety, health, and security while also meeting green building principles,” said Dody.
UI Rector Prof. Heri expressed his gratitude to all parties involved, particularly the Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing. He noted that this building has been a long-awaited dream of the FIA UI community since the faculty’s founding on March 10, 2015. The new FIA UI building was designed with a smart and green building concept and has received the Green Building Certification (BGH) with a “Pratama” rating.
“We have given UI a new meaning: Unggul Impactful (Excellent and Impactful). This building is the output, and we hope the impact will be a thriving academic environment. FIA UI should not be an ordinary faculty—it must produce graduates in business administration, public administration, and fiscal administration who become think tanks and contribute significantly to better policy-making in Indonesia,” Prof. Heri emphasized.
The construction of the new FIA UI building began with the signing of the contract on December 14, 2022, involving FIA UI; the Directorate General of Human Settlements of the Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing; PT Adhi Karya (Persero) Tbk. as the implementing contractor; and PT Virama Karya (Persero) as the construction management consultant. The project also involved the Faculty of Engineering’s Technology Institute (FT UI) as the planning consultant.
At the end of the ceremony, Agus toured several areas of the building alongside UI’s leadership. During this visit, he joined Prof. Chandra Wijaya in delivering a guest lecture to motivate and inspire the students attending the session.
