Research in the field of public administration has changed and advanced significantly in recent years, impacting in many ways, such as how we engage in research, the interdisciplinary nature of the theory we use, and the research questions we ask. Research in public administration not only talks about bureaucracy, public service and leadership; but also areas like social justice, comparative administration, artificial intelligence, climate change, and the environment.

The science of public administration is one of the most needed sciences in creating an environment for making the 11th SDGs, namely sustainable cities and settlements and the 13th, namely Climate Change Management. In other words, research in the field of public administration is one of the keys to creating a clean, green and comfortable environment for all people. This was conveyed by Dr. Teguh Kurniawan, M.Sc., as Chair of the FIA UI State Administration Department/Study Program at the FIA UI Cluster Day DeLOGO event.

“Research in public administration is extensive, including discussing climate and the environment. This is the topic of research I am conducting, namely the GOGREEN research project, a global initiative led by the University of Roskilde and funded by the independent Danish Research Council from 2022 to 2026. This project aims to identify a constellation of governance factors that drive the successful co-creation of transitions green,” said Dr. Firm.

Furthermore, Dr. Teguh said that the shift in public sector values from efficiency and effectiveness towards a paradigm that highlights equality has become something that needs to be considered in conducting research and studies. During the rapid development of information technology, said Dr. Teguh, there is a window of opportunity for new, broader research that can answer present and future challenges.

“A more proactive approach in disseminating research to those involved in the day-to-day decision-making processes of public organizations. This is a challenge for all of us amid technological developments such as AI and others. Therefore, we hope to contribute to conducting studies and publications to help make appropriate decisions.

For information, Democracy and Local Governance (DeLOGO) is a research cluster at the Faculty of Administrative Sciences (FIA) that focuses on studies related to issues related to implementation. The cluster day aims to build an atmosphere and enthusiasm for research among FIA UI lecturers and students and to bring researchers closer to ongoing research developments so they can learn from each other, collaborate and synergize between researchers.
“DeLOGO’s research areas include local government performance; central-regional relations; governance of local government organizations; autonomy and village management of regional natural resources; and regional autonomy. The formation of the DeLoGo Research Cluster aims to become a forum for exchanging ideas, ideas, and results of studies related to local government. This exchange is intended for the internal Faculty of Administrative Sciences and other parties interested in regional government studies,” said Prof. Dr. Irfan Ridwan Maksum, M.Si, as Chair of the FIA UI Cluster Day.

The event took place on Friday, 5 May 2023 morning via the Zoom meeting platform with 15 participants. In this event, Dr. Roy Valiant Solomon, M.Soc.Sc; dr. Maria Eurelia Wayan, M.Ak; Imas Cempaka Mulia, MPA.; Debie Puspasari, MPA.
